Edgar Rice Burroughs (September 1, 1875-March 19, 1950), American author, is best known as the creator of Tarzan, one of the most widely known fictional characters, as well as the adventurer, John Carter of Mars. As the author of more than 70 books, Burroughs wrote novels in many adventure genres, including science fiction, Western, and historical.
