Erskine Childers


Erskine Childers (born Robert Erskine Childers, June 25, 1870-November 24, 1922), Irish politician, soldier, and author, was a nationalist who was executed by leaders of the Irish Free State during the Irish Civil War (1922-23). His novel The Riddle of the Sands (1903) was very popular and remains in print. He was the father of Erskine Hamilton Childers, the fourth president of Ireland.
