Robert Tressell

Robert Tressell (April 17, 1870-February 3, 1911) was the pen name of Irish writer Robert Noonan. After trying several other careers, he turned to writing toward the end of his life as a way to keep him out of the workhouse. He completed The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists (originally called The Ragged Arsed Philanthropists) one year before his death, but it was rejected by three different publishers. Kathleen, his daughter, went on to arrange the publication of it after his death in 1911.
