Fitch, Ashbel Parmelee

Fitch, Ashbel Parmelee, a Representative from New York; born in Moores, Clinton County, N.Y., October 8, 1848; attended the public schools of New York, Williston Seminary, East Hampton, Mass., the Universities of Jena and Berlin, Germany, and Columbia College Law School in New York City; was admitted to the bar in November 1869 and practiced in New York City; elected as a Republican to the Fiftieth Congress and as a Democrat to the Fifty-first, Fifty-second, and Fifty-third Congresses and served from March 4, 1887, until December 26, 1893, when he resigned; comptroller of New York City 1893-1897; president of the Trust Co. of America in 1899; died in New York City May 4, 1904; interment in Woodlawn Cemetery.
