Hendrick, John Kerr

Hendrick, John Kerr, a Representative from Kentucky; born in Caswell County, N.C., October 10, 1849; moved with his parents to Logan County and later to Todd County, Ky.; attended private schools and Bethel College, Russellville, Ky.; moved to Crittenden County, Ky., in 1869 and engaged in teaching school; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1874 and commenced practice in Smithland, Ky.; prosecuting attorney of Livingston County 1878-1886; member of the State senate 1887-1891; delegate to the Democratic National Convention at St. Louis in 1888; elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-fourth Congress (March 4, 1895-March 3, 1897); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1896; resumed the practice of law in Paducah, Ky., where he died June 20, 1921; interment in Maplelawn Cemetery.
