Osborne, Thomas Burr
Osborne, Thomas Burr, a Representative from Connecticut; born in Weston (now Easton), Conn., July 8, 1798; was graduated from Yale College in 1817; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1820 and commenced practice in Fairfield, Conn.; clerk of the county and superior courts 1826-1839; member of the State house of representatives in 1836; elected as a Whig to the Twenty-sixth and Twenty-seventh Congresses (March 4, 1839-March 3, 1843); served in the State senate in 1844, and the same year was appointed judge of the Fairfield County Court, which office he held for several years; again a member of the State house of representatives in 1850; judge of probate for Fairfield district in 1851; moved to New Haven in 1854; professor in Yale Law School from 1855 until 1865, when he resigned and retired from public life; died in New Haven, Conn., on September 2, 1869; interment in Evergreen Cemetery.
