		McCleary, James Thompson
    McCleary, James Thompson, a Representative from Minnesota; born in Ingersoll, Ontario, Canada, February 5, 1853; was educated at Ingersoll High School and McGill University, Montreal, Canada; engaged as superintendent of the Pierce County (Wis.) schools until 1881 when he resigned; moved to Minnesota and became State institute conductor of Minnesota and professor of civil government and history in the normal school in Mankato, Minn.; continued in this position until June 1892, when he became a candidate for Congress; president of the Minnesota Educational Association in 1891; elected as a Republican to the Fifty-third and to the six succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1893-March 3, 1907); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1906 to the Sixtieth Congress; appointed Second Assistant Postmaster General during Theodore Roosevelt’s administration and served from March 29, 1907, until his resignation on September 15, 1908; secretary of the American Iron and Steel Institute in New York City 1911-1920; moved to Maiden Rock, Pierce County, Wis., and engaged in farming; thence to Mill Valley, Calif., and engaged in literary pursuits; returned to Maiden Rock, Wis., in 1924; died in La Crosse, Wis., December 17, 1924; interment in Lakewood Cemetery, Maiden Rock, Wis.
