Statement by the President on the Death of Queen Elisabeth of Belgium.
November 24, 1965

OUR COUNTRY is saddened by the passing of a majestic lady. Queen Elisabeth of Belgium became to her people—and indeed to the world—a stirring symbol of dignity and courage when we most needed a demonstration of those qualities.
On behalf of the people of this country, Mrs. Johnson and I extend our deepest sympathy to King Baudouin and the people of Belgium.

NOTE: The statement was read by Bill D. Moyers, Special Assistant to the President, at his news conference at 10:20 a.m. on Wednesday, November 24, 1965, at Austin, Tex. It was not made public in the form of a White House press release.
