Van Buren, John
Van Buren, John, a Representative from New York; born in Kingston, Ulster County, N.Y., May 13, 1799; was graduated from Union College, Schenectady, N.Y., in 1818; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Kingston, N.Y.; member of the State assembly in 1831; judge of Ulster County 1836-1841; elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-seventh Congress (March 4, 1841-March 3, 1843); resumed the practice of law; district attorney of Ulster County 1846-1850; died in Kingston, N.Y., January 16, 1855; interment in Old Houghtaling Cemetery.
