Spruance, Presley
Spruance, Presley, a Senator from Delaware; born in Kent County, Del., September 11, 1785; pursued preparatory studies; engaged in manufacturing and mercantile pursuits in Smyrna, Del.; delegate to the State constitutional convention in 1831; member of the State senate in 1828, 1840, and 1846, and served as its president; elected as a Whig to the United States Senate and served from March 4, 1847, to March 3, 1853; was not a candidate for renomination in 1852; resumed his business pursuits; died in Smyrna, Del., February 13, 1863; interment in the Presbyterian Cemetery.
