Chrisman, James Stone
Chrisman, James Stone, a Representative from Kentucky; born in Monticello, Wayne County, Ky., September 14, 1818; attended the common schools; engaged in agricultural pursuits; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1849 and commenced practice in Monticello, Wayne County, Ky.; unsuccessful candidate for election to the State house of representatives in 1845 and 1847 and for presidential elector in 1848 and 1852; delegate to the State constitutional convention in 1849; elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-third Congress (March 4, 1853-March 3, 1855); unsuccessfully contested the election of William C. Anderson to the Thirty-sixth Congress; Representative from Kentucky to the First and Second Confederate Congresses 1862-1865; member of the State house of representatives 1869-1871; resumed the practice of law in Monticello, Ky., where he died July 29, 1881; interment in a private cemetery on his farm.
