Reed, Edward Cambridge

Reed, Edward Cambridge, a Representative from New York; born in Fitzwilliam, N.H., March 8, 1793; attended the common schools; was graduated from Dartmouth College, Hanover, N.H., in 1812; served in the War of 1812 under Governor Marcy; studied law in Troy, N.Y.; was admitted to the bar in 1816 and commenced practice in Homer, N.Y.; secretary of the board of trustees of Cortland Academy, Homer, N.Y., 1822-1870; district attorney of Cortland County 1827-1836; was admitted to the court of chancery in 1830; elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-second Congress (March 4, 1831-March 3, 1833); resumed the practice of law; associate judge of the court of common pleas of Cortland County 1836-1840; again district attorneyin 1856; moved to Ithaca, N.Y., in 1875 and resumed the practice of his profession; died in Ithaca, Tompkins County, N.Y., on May 1, 1883; interment in Glenwood Cemetery, Homer, Cortland County, N.Y.
