General SummaryThis case is from a collection containing the full text of over 16,000 Supreme Court cases from 1793 to the present. The body of Supreme Court decisions are, effectively, the final interpretation of the Constitution. Only an amendment to the Constitution can permanently overturn an interpretation and this has happened only four times in American history.

Syllabus
The status of "farmer" for the purpose of proceedings under § 75 of the Bankruptcy Act, is determined by the definition of that term in § 75(r), not by the definition in § 1(17), which relate to other sections. Pp. 271, 274.
This results not only from the language of § 75(r), but also from the legislative history.
