Underhill, John Quincy
Underhill, John Quincy, a Representative from New York; born in New Rochelle, Westchester County, N.Y., February 19, 1848; attended private and public schools and the College of the City of New York; engaged in the insurance business; village trustee of New Rochelle in 1877; elected village president in 1878 and reelected in 1880; served as town auditor; member of the board of education for several years; connected with the Westchester Fire Insurance Co. for nineteen years, serving as president and treasurer; elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-sixth Congress (March 4, 1899-March 3, 1901); was not a candidate for renomination in 1900; discontinued active business pursuits and lived in retirement; died in New Rochelle, N.Y., May 21, 1907; interment in Beechwoods Cemetery.
