The President today announced his intention to nominate Sidney A. Diamond, of Tucson, Ariz., to be Commissioner of Patents and Trademarks. He would replace Donald Banner, who has resigned from the Commission.
Diamond, 64, is currently counsel to the New York City firm of Kaye, Scholer, Fierman, Hays & Handler and vice president of the International Patent and Trademark Association, the American group of the International Association for the Protection of Industrial Property.
He was born October 17, 1914, in New York City. He received an A.B. from Dartmouth College in 1935 and an LL.B. from Harvard Law School in 1938.
Diamond practiced law in New YorkCity from 1938 to 1941 and in Washington from 1941 to 1943. From 1943 to 1946, he was with the Justice Department as special attorney and special assistant to the Attorney General. He has practiced law in New York City since 1946, first with Roosevelt, Freidin & Littauer, then since 1956 with Kaye, Scholer, Fierlnan, Hays & Handler.
Diamond has served as chairman of the American Bar Association’s section of patent, trademark and Copyright law and as vice president of the Copyright Society of the U.S.A. He has written numerous articles in legal and other journals on trademark and copyright matters.
